A Touch of Modesty! ^__~” (NSFW)

I love the curvaceous look of the large bust and shapely L-bust on Dollfie Dreams, but one of the things that irks me is the extremely obvious nipples that can poke through most outfits! Call it a crazy girl thing, but I wouldn’t walk out with my headlights on full bright so it’s not a look I care for on my dolls either!

I’ve been meaning to try sanding down the nipples on a bust piece for a while, and got around to trying it today. I’ve added the NSFW tag because there are naked doll busts :P

So here are a couple of busts that I have laying around that I wanted to experiment with. On the left is a DDdy3 normal bust, and on the right is a DD2 L-bust. Upon inspecting the inside of the busts I noticed that the nipples are not hollow, so I could get away with some sanding without damaging the bust piece.

Sanding DD Bust Nipples
Since I have several L-busts I decided to work with that one first, just in case anything went wrong o_0″

I’m using my nail-art rotary tool (since it’s what I have!) for sanding, but any rotary tool with an adjustable speed would work. Of course, sanding by hand is also an option! I also brought out my dust-eater fan since I didn’t want to be inhaling vinyl dust, and I wore a mask for this process. Here I’ve sanded off the point of the nipple -
Sanding DD Bust Nipples

Working slowly here I’ve sanded off most of the nipple. At first I thought I would just remove the pointy bit, but then it looked like there was a giant mosquito bite or welt on the breast! Yikes! So I kept sanding to smooth that out- lol!
Sanding DD Bust Nipples

To restore the smooth finish to the vinyl, I sanded the bust using some super fine sandpaper. It looks a bit gross because I re-used some leftover pieces from hubby’s KOS-MOS sword project. The coarser (darker) sandpaper is 1500 grit and the super-fine is 2000 grit.
Sanding DD Bust Nipples

Just so you can see how prominent the nipples are – here’s a profile shot!
Sanding DD Bust Nipples

And the top view (excuse my messy workspace!) after sanding -
Sanding DD Bust Nipples

Next I repeated the same process on the other nipple.
Sanding DD Bust Nipples

Now to see how the bust looks with clothes on – because that’s the whole point of this venture! ^__^”
This style of tank top that Sakura was modelling yesterday is nice and stretchy, but even with her modest M-bust her nipples were showing through -
Sakura Matou eye change

Here’s Sidonie modelling the same top in a different colour. See how nicely it clings to her curvy body? And no pointy nipples!
Sidonie and Richard

Sidonie and Richard

It’s a matter of personal taste how much of the nipple that you want to sand off. I don’t mind having the nipples on a few of my bust pieces, but for some outfits I’d like to have a smoother fit so I may modify a couple more L-busts and even an M-bust. Work slowly and with care, but don’t worry that you’ll be left with a hole where the nipple once was!
You’d have to get very carried away for that to happen! Haha!

Dollfie Dream Meetup in Toronto – February 16, 2013

Oh my goodness time flies! I’ve been meaning to post about our last Toronto meet ages ago, but time just got away from me! A few weeks ago many of the Toronto-area Dollfie Dream owners got together at Go For Tea in Markham. This was our largest meetup to date (with 20 attendees!) but luckily they have a very big party room off to the side that was able to accommodate our large group! Here are some of the beautiful dolls in attendance -

Group shot
Back row: Juu-Yuki’s Kirito & Asuna, PlasticFantastic’s Juno, my Rin Tohsaka, Annalise & Serena, and Meo’s Tamaki.
Middle row: PlasticFantastic’s Maya, Tanu-chan’s Kairi, AgentPanda’s Penny, my Médée, Meo’s Misuzu and Lillia
Front row: nkei’s Charlotte & Kokoro, AgentPanda’s Dotty, my newly arrived Mayuyu (custom HDD-06 painted by Machiko), PlasticFantastic’s Yuki, di-chan123′s Sia, MrCool’s Yukino and centurystory’s Primula

And hiding behind all the big dolls there was a little resin BJD picnic! So much cuteness!

whitefrosty’s Mishka and Yukio, Machiko’s Delilah & Sora and Tallenvyaere’s little resin dolly

I brought several of my girls with me on this outing since we carpooled up there and I didn’t have to deal with the subway! Here’s Rin looking very sweet. She found a cookie!

It seems that Rin doesn’t go anywhere without Annalise close behind!

I brought Serena with me, and here she is with Meo’s Tamaki, both in their lovely wa-loli dresses!

Juu-Yuki brought her newly arrived DD Yuki Morikawa, who shall be her custom Asuna doll; and she’s accompanied by handsome Kirito. Look closely – that’s a repainted Saber Lily head.

Here’s AgentPanda’s cute little girl Dot riding an alpaca!

Meo brought pretty Misuzu out again. I haven’t seen her in a while!

He also brought his Black Raven Lillia, who is spreading lots of Valentine’s Day love with Misuzu and Primula -

Whitefrosty brought a couple of her boys with her. Here’s Mishka – it was nice to see him again since he doesn’t come to meets very often!

She also brought Yukio (Volks YoSD Puff) who is on a romantic little date with Machiko’s Delilah! Both of their outfits are so adorable!

CenturyStory brought the ever-stylish Primula and took some very gorgeous photos of her.

These little ones got into some mischief and Kokoro had to get them back in line, but with that pouty face it’s hard to take her seriously!

Yup… obviously Maya is taking Kokoro very seriously – LOL

But it appears that AgentPanda’s Penny and Tanu’s Kairi were very well-behaved and listening to Charlotte tell them stories.

At first I scoffed at the tiny portion size, but this cake was very rich. Any more and it would have been like I ate a brick!

We had a very relaxed afternoon, and the staff were very cool about letting us just hang-out and take pictures. I wish this restaurant was more friendly for public transport, but it made for a great venue for such a big group to meet. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get these pictures posted! I promise not to be so tardy with the March meet-up photos! >__<"

Mini Dollfie Dream meetup in London – March 3, 2013

Earlier this month I made a quick visit to London and was able to meet up with some awesome DD owner friends from across the pond. I met up with GabrielVH, Jezatron and Pink_Blaise for a day of eating, chatting and goofing around and it was a wonderful way to spend the day!

I met up with Pink_Blaise in the afternoon and we enjoyed tea, pastries and macarons on the sunny patio of the Ladurée tearoom in Covent Garden. It was still a bit chilly but sunny days in London are such a rare treat! I hadn’t seen Pink_Blaise since last November so it was great to be able to catch up on exciting news going on in her life! ^__^”
Afternoon Tea and Desserts at Ladurée with Pink_Blaise
We had the St Honoré Rose Framboise Pastry, Cassis-Violet Religieuse pastry and a trio of macarons (salted caramel, violet marshmallow and green apple). Delicious!

There was even a little rainbow on our macaron plate! ^__^”

After tea, we walked to Soho to meet up with Jezatron and GabrielVH at a little place called MADD (short for Mango Addiction) where they serve delicious smoothies and desserts with mango as their main focus! I had the MADD signature smoothie and it was delicious! I was looking for any place where we could sit and relax for a bit, and MADD was a nice, relaxing place in the midst of the all the hustle and bustle of Soho.

GabrielVH brought cute little Yui out, since I said that she didn’t come out to doll meets nearly enough! I love her stylish outfit!

This is Jezatron’s newest girl, Melty. She is much prettier in person than I expected – the details on her face, eyes and her elf-ears are much more subtle.

Depending on the angle you look at her, I think Melty’s mouth can look a bit stern but the sculpt of her face is very soft and pretty.

Everyone was famished since none of us had eaten a proper lunch, so we decided to head out for dinner. Sadly the Korean place I wanted to go to was closed (Nyooo!) so we went out for Pho in Soho as a backup. It was tasty and comforting since Gabe and I were a little bit under the weather, but we were still hungry afterwards!! So, since the night was still early, we popped over to Wagamama for “Second Dinner!” This was much more relaxed and since the restaurant wasn’t as busy and noisy we were able to have much better conversation.
2nd dinner at Wagamama :P

I had a great time hanging out with you all! I wish all my layovers were this much fun! I can’t wait until my next time in London!

Last weekend a few of the Toronto-based Dollfie Dream owners met up for a small doll met, and we welcomed 3 new faces! AkaTG, Nurlindae and a friend of MrCool00236′s came to hang out with us. Since we were a small-ish group, we went to Café Princess and brought a few dolls with us! We had a loose theme of Springtime, Easter and St. Patrick’s Day so there were lots of cute outfits on the dolls!

Dollfie Dream meet!

We weren’t able to book the party room so we sat out front, and it was actually very nice since there was more natural light. These girl were early so they got set up first -

March Doll Meet I brought Hinata (DD Shino on a DDdy3 body), Siobhán (DD Saber Alter) and Serena (DD Yuki Morikawa) with me; Di-chan123 brought Lily, and PlasticFantastic brought Odette (DD Neris), Amber (DD Airy) and MDD Cirno!

While the café was still quiet, Dolly Doctor Sam helped me get a DD2 vinyl foot onto the foot armature. We even brought our own hair-dryer for this task! Not many people ever get to see a DD2 foot armature since it’s a pain to get the foot off of it, and quite the struggle to get it attached >_<" Thank you Sam!

PlasticFantastic brought along Amber wearing Mashiro’s ears and tail, to give AkaTG some inspiration on his own custom DD project.

My mouth is starting to water looking through this pictures again! >__<” If you’d like to see a few more photos from this meet, you can check out this Flickr set!

We had a lovely little meetup and time flew by really quickly! It’s always nice to have new faces join us, especially when they are new to Dollfie Dreams and not sure where to start. It helps to see the dolls in person, handle them and be able to ask questions from other owners! We’re a friendly bunch, so if any of you are ever in Toronto, let me know!

Earlier this week I brought Hinata with me to Vancouver and was whisked away by Puppy52 and Aki for the day! We had lunch at Aberdeen Center and then drove into Steveston Village to take some pictures of the girls.

I only took a few photos with my iPhone since I forgot my camera, but Puppy52 posted some beautiful photos that she took on her blog -

Some of the plum blosssoms are already starting to bloom, but it was still too early for the sakura trees.

I didn’t know that “Once Upong a Time” was filmed in Steveston, so I was really excited to see some of the “main street Storybrooke” set was up! Dr. Archie Hopper’s office and Mr. Gold’s pawn shop were set up, and a few other businesses.
Spent the day in #Storybrooke! Dr. Hopper's office, Granny's, Mr. Gold's pawnshop, the library & the bakery!

The girls were very amused too!

Sometimes it’s fun to be a tourist! Hehehe.

I had a lot of fun checking out Steveston Village and playing with Puppy52′s kitties!!

The next morning I went out for lunch with Katoukei and LightningSabre at Guu Garden. LightningSabre brought his swarm of MISAKA’s with him!

Lunch was absolutely delicious and everything was beautifully presented. Yummy! The tuna tataki at Guu is one of my favourite things ever!

After lunch, we popped into Soirette for a spot of tea and some macarons.

Happy Easter! Dollfie Dream Meetup in Hong Kong – March 29, 2013

Last Friday afternoon I met up with Hong Kong-based Dollfie Dream owners SenorQuentinos, Stepswalker, TonyBSD and XOHimitsuOX for a small meetup at a maid café in Mong Kok area. We went to the Café Maid Dreamin’ Akiba to hang out, have dinner and chat – and of course a few very pretty Dollfie’s came along too!

HK Doll meetup group photo
XOHimitsuOX brought his sassy Alna out, I brought my most-travelled little DD – Gabrielle, TonyBSD brought adorable Mashiro, Stepswalker brought beautiful Tamaki and Q brought his awesome Black Rock Shooter custom DD. Since it was also Easter weekend, I brought little chocolate bunnies for everyone as gifts, but they ended up as photo props instead! ^__~”

Here’s Gabi with Mashiro in their cute meido outfits! TonyBSD admitted that she’s his favourite girl, and it was a good thing none of his other girls were around to hear him say that! @__@”
IMG_8976

This is the prettiest Tamaki I’ve seen – with her alluring long eyelashes and cute twin-tailed wig. So cute! She took a liking to Gabi’s arpakasso and held onto him most of the evening. ^__^”

I previously met Q’s Black Rock Shooter DD back in November, but I’m still awestruck by how stunning she is every time I see her. This time Q brought her cool flaming eye accessory too!

But I took the chance to play with a pair of the newly sculpted, larger hands for DD. Side by side with the older hands, these do seem a bit big, since the DDS arm is so slim but they photograph almost the same size!

And without the smaller hand, the large hand actually looks alright proportionally! I was quite surprised.

One of my favourite aspects of meeting up with DD owners is chatting in person, since things come up in conversation that often don’t arise on forums or twitter. My mind was blown away to learn that the DD wrist joint comes apart like this!! And that there’s a special custom-made modification joint made by Wersaze that allows 360 mobility (more like how a human wrist moves)!
DD wrist joint comes apart!

This was my first time going to maid café in Hong Kong and I was curious to see how different it would be from a Japanese one. Every maid café has it’s own kind of “vibe” and the overall atmosphere at Maid Dreamin’ was very casual – kind of like a place where you would come after school to relax and hang out.
Doll meet in HK

Half of the cafe is set up around the dance stage, and the other half is set up like a classroom for guests to sit and read manga – or take a nap? LOL
Dollfie Meet in Hong Kong

For groups of guests they have cards and board games that customers can use, every 2 hours or so a couple of the maids perform a little dance but there’s a super package that includes dinner, a photo and the chance to get up on stage and dance with a maid in front of everyone! We were in for a rare treat, since someone bought this package while we were there!
IMG_8973

It seemed that many of the guests were regulars, and familiar with the maids, so it there was a chatty, casual feeling the whole evening. The space is not too big, so it feels very intimate and friendly. (And in case anyone is wondering, while most of the guests were male, I certainly wasn’t the only female guest!)

Here’s the Head Maid sending her love to the special drink that the guys next to us ordered. She was quite spunky and a bit sarcastic, which was her moe-characteristic.

We ordered omurice (omlette-rice) and curry-fried udon, and all of the drinks were so pretty, although XOHimitsuOX’s was an amusing radioactive green! ^__~”

Review: Volks Sailor Tulle Skirt Set

$

A quick post today to review one of the newly released Volks outfits from the Osaka 7 Doll Party (Dolpa)! I managed to secure several of the outfits released at this event, and I’ll try to review them all promptly so that anyone who likes them can try to obtain them from Volks USA’s after-event in a few months time.

This is the Sailor Tulle Skirt set (DDTK-178) (which at the moment is still in stock on the Volks International web store!) and it features a zip-front blazer, a tank top, skirt and thigh-high socks.

This outfit is designed to fit Dollfie Dreams with either small or medium bust, and here is Sakura modelling it.
Volks Sailor Tulle Skirt Set

Here’s what the inside of the outfit components look like: (oops I left the stockings out! >__<”)

Volks Sailor Tulle Skirt Set
The blue blazer is made of a medium-weight sweatshirt kind of fabric and the back of it has a white webbing. The webbing looks almost like iron-on interfacing but the blazer doesn’t feel stiff and the white fibres look like they are woven into the fabric. The inside of the cuffs is lined in white where it would come in contact with a doll’s arms, wrists or hands. It appears that this should not stain, and I will verify in a few days. I had originally thought that this top was a hoodie, but it’s actually a sailor-top neckline. The red bow is a pin and can be re-positioned or removed completely. There are false pockets on the front of the blazer, which are visible in the photo below.

Volks Sailor Tulle Skirt set

The tank-top is a stretchy cotton jersey, with a generous strip if velcro in the back. It’s long enough to layer over the waistband of the skirt, which is nice since it means I could pair this with some jeans or shorts for a different look. If any of you own any of the cute Volks lolita sets from Kyoto 9 (Sugar Milk Cookie, Strawberry Milk Heart), the fabric from this tank top is slightly different from the fabric used in the stockings in those sets. The stripes on this tank top are a little bit darker, and spaced closer together than on the stockings.

Volks Sailor Tulle Skirt set

I checked Sakura after 8 hours and again after 24 hours and there were no stains on the shoulder from the grey straps, and no stains on the arms or back of the neck area from the blazer! ^__^b

The skirt is actually an ivory/ off-white colour featuring a light dotted mesh (similar to what I’ve seen some stockings made of) layered over a layer of stiff broadcloth-like cotton. I know the name of the outfit says “Tulle Skirt” but when I think of tulle I think of soft netting like in the Adagio and Allegro outfit sets from last June. The skirt has an elastic waistband so it should fit on all DD bodies (though you might have to take a DDdy apart at the waist to slip the skirt on). I noticed that the edge of the mesh over-layer has a raw edge so be careful not to snag it on any velcro as this could damage it. Since the skirt is made of a sturdy cotton, it poofs out quite nicely and doesn’t need a petticoat – in fact I might even use this as a petticoat if I’m ever in a pinch!

Volks Sailor Tulle Skirt set

The stockings have the same jersey as the tank top trimming the top, with cute little black bows sewn onto the top. I inspected the inside of the stockings and the bows are sewn on with white thread, so these stockings should not cause any staining.

This is a really cute casual set, and all of the individual components are versatile and can be mixed and matched with other items to create different outfits. The retail price of this set was ¥7140, and if you like it I suggest grabbing it from Volks quickly before it sells out completely because aftermarket prices are never kind >__<”

Stay tuned for more outfit reviews in the next couple of days!

Review: Volks Lace-Up Top Set

Yesterday I shared my thoughts & observations on Volk’s newly released Sailor Tulle Skirt Set (and I just added a couple more pictures of the outfit to that post!), and today I’ll share my observations of the Lace-Up Top Set (DDTK-179). This was a very popular set and sold out very quickly at the Osaka 7 DP after-event online, and for good reason! It’s such a cool outfit – I would wear it myself! ^__^” Here’s Lily modelling it – she’s a DD3 with an L-bust. This outfit will fit M and L bust (although I imagine the black top would be loose) and also the DDdy.

Volks Lace-Up Top set

In my personal option this set was one of the best values of the sets released at the Osaka 7 DP (retail price is 6615 yen) since it came with so many components!

Volks Lace-Up Top set

The long-sleeved over-shirt is made of a very light-weight ribbed jersey. The grey trim on the collar is lined with white on the inside. An interesting feature is that there’s a useless piece of elastic sewn into the inside seam the sleeve at the bottom. It creates a casual gather of the sleeve but does nothing to improve the fit. The cord that laces up the front of the shirt is black leather cord (or fake leather? I’m not sure), not ribbon.

Volks Lace-Up Top set

The tube top is made of black patterned cotton (if you purchased the Argyle Cardigan set, or own the Cherished Rose set, you’ll recognized the fabric! ^__~”) and is fully lined in white cotton on the inside. Care was taken to finish all the edges that would touch a doll using white thread and this is particularly obvious in the back. The tube top fastens in the back with 3 metal snaps and one hook & thread-loop. None of the white threads are visible once the tube top is worn. I checked Lily after wearing the top for 5 hrs, and again 24 hrs later and there was no sign of any staining.

The skirt is a brown tone-on-tone plaid with black lace trim. It closes in the back with only a zipper and has a white lining halfway down the inside (up to where the frills begin).

Volks Lace-Up Top set

When I first took the brown stockings out of the package, my first thought was “Good grief these are thick!” and compared to most Volks cotton socks they are quite thick! It’s almost the weight of a thin sweat-pant type fabric. The inside of socks are woven with white thread, however the brown folds over at the top with a bit of the black elastic trim. I checked Lily’s legs after wearing the stockings for about 5 hours and there were no signs of staining, which was a good sign. At the 12 hour point, I noticed a very faint black stain at the back of only one leg from the exposed black elastic. I removed the stockings after a total of 30 hours on the doll. The tiny stain I noticed earlier didn’t get any worse, and there were no other stains on the other leg. I checked the feet carefully for stains (since they were jammed into the boots) and there was no marks at all. Since these stockings are already very thick, adding a bodystocking layer would add more bulk and could make wearing some shoes very tight, so I’d suggest putting a small piece of tape at the back of the stocking where the elastic is, or a tiny piece of cling film nor even white tissue paper. I’m going to give these stockings a wash before I use them again and hopefully that will help prevent further stains.

The pair of hair-ties are made of the same fabric as the skirt, and attach using a hook and thread-loop. There is quite a bit of stretch to them so it should fit most dolls with twin-tails.
Volks Lace-Up Top set

This outfit also comes with a very nice belt that measures just over 1cm wide. It is a brown leatherette with an oxidized brass coloured buckle. I found it a bit finicky since my belt was a tiny bit too wide to slide easily into the buckle.

Volks Lace-Up Top set

Here’s what the black top looks like on it’s own. I tried to photograph the texture of the fabric, but you can see that it’s not just flat black cotton. I hooked the 2 hair-ties together and made a choker out of them for a different look too!
Volks Lace-Up Top set

I’m really glad that I was able to get this outfit! It will be available from VolksUSA in a few months, so if you missed out you’ll have another chance there! I’m pretty impressed that the top didn’t stain, and I expected the socks to stain much more than they actually did.

Stay tuned for more outfit reviews!

Review: Volks Flower Tulle Skirt Set (MDD)

I don’t purchase many MDD outfits since I only have one 1:4 sized girl and also because I can usually borrow 1:4 sized clothing from my sister, however hubby fell in love with this sweet outfit set from Volks that was released at the Osaka 7 Dolpa a few weeks ago so I bought it for my little Médée! It’s called the Flower Tulle Skirt Set (DDTK-177) and here is my little cutie pie showing off her new clothes! Whee!

>Volks Flower Tulle Skirt set (MDD)

The adorable hoodie is sized for MSD, all bust ranges of MDD and I have a sneaking thought that I might be able to fit Gabi (DDS with S-bust) into it too ^__~” It features a functional zipper, and cute little bows as fake pockets.

Volks Flower Tulle Skirt set (MDD)

The tank top is made of stretchy ribbed cotton jersey and has a nice wide strip of velcro in the back. The fabric itself is stretchy however the top and bottom edges of the top are not.

Volks Flower Tulle Skirt set (MDD)

The skirt is actually 2 separate pieces! The top layer is a delicate white tulle with a lace trim and elasticized waistband. The main piece of the skirt is very pretty pink chiffon with fuzzy dots and red polka dots and flowers printed on it. The chiffon is layered over white cotton to make the print stand out more. The skirt closes in the back using 2 metal snaps.

Volks Flower Tulle Skirt set (MDD)

There are pair of grey knee-high socks included, and after wearing them for several hours there are no signs of staining.

If you’ve become smitten with it, this super cute set is still available on Volk’s webstore, retail price is 5460 yen.

Fashion Friday: “Her Royal Highness” Hinata

Time to showcase another lovely outfits that I’ve recently acquired! This is this gorgeous custom set called “Your Royal Highness” created by Puppy52! I fell in love with the gorgeous print of the skirt and knew that I had to have this set – and most of the pieces are sized for the DDdy/DDdy3 body, which can be hard to find clothing for.

It arrived in a beautiful box and Hinata was very excited to receive this present! What can be inside?
Hinata's New Puppy52 Clothes

Alright, I’ll be honest, we were both super excited to open up the package so I forgot to take a photo of all the items inside, but here’s Puppy52′s photo from her blog -
puppy52 outfit

Puppy52 knew that this would be a gift for Hinata (since she’s my only DDdy! Hehehe!) and drew this beautiful picture of her! It’s so gorgeous!! *___* Thank you!
Hinata's New Puppy52 Clothes

I love how the jeans hug the DDdy3′s curves! Puppy52 omitted the belt loops on these capri jeans so there is less bulk at the waistband when tops are worn loosely over top of them.

Hinata's New Puppy52 Clothes

There are so many pieces that Hinata would look a bit silly wearing them all at once, so Serena is here to help model too!
Hinata's New Puppy52 Clothes

(Note: Fur stole on Serena by Volks)

This skirt is designed to fit on all Dollfie Dream body types and it’s so pretty! Hinata couldn’t let Serena walk away with it, so here she is modelling it with some cute coordinating stockings. Hinata is showing off a beautiful ‘Red Wine’ coloured wig to coordinate with this outfit set – do you like it on her?

Hinata's New Puppy52 Clothes

I’m thrilled to own this beautiful set! Puppy52 has just listed a new one-off set for sale as well – details are on her blog. If you like it, please support her wonderful work!

Review: Volks Argyle Cardigan Set

$

To continue my review of the Tenshi-no-Koromo outfits that were released a few weeks ago at the Osaka 7 DP, today I’ll review the Argyle Cardigan Set (DDTK-180). This was a very popular item from the Osaka 7 DP because it is very feminine and made of light-colours and has virtually no risk of staining a Dollfie Dream. Here’s Aerie wearing this pretty outfit set -

Volks Argyle Cardigan set

The cardigan is a nice quality knit and I was surprised to see that the 2 buttons are functional! I was expecting them to be decorative only, with a hidden snap behind them. There is a reinforced edge and white lining on the inside of where the buttons and button-holes are. If you really don’t like dealing with buttons, it is possible to put the cardigan on without unbuttoning the front, but you’ll need to remove the hands from your DD in order to fit through the sleeves. The way that the cardigan is shaped lays very nicely over the back of the skirt without any bunching.

Volks Argyle Cardigan set

The skirt is made of a dusty pink micro-suede. If any of you own the Volks Cherised Rose Set, it’s actually the same fabric! For this skirt there appears to be a very thin layer of interfacing fused to the back to help it hold the pleats more crisply. The skirt does up in the back with just a light pink zipper and the inside of the waistband is lined in white. I wish that Volks would put curved waistbands into some of their skirts to make them sit on the hips better. This skirt just kind of hangs on the hips and doesn’t fit very nicely but this is a common problem and one they aren’t likely to remedy any time soon.

Volks Argyle Cardigan set

The blouse is made of a very pretty textured white cotton. Again, if you own the Cherished Rose set, and are curious, the blouse is made of the same fabric that is used in the middle panel of the dress. The blouse does up the front with a row of metal snaps. There is a tiny bit of brown ribbon on the inside of the blouse I don’t think it should be a staining worry because the spot is in the doll’s cleavage and wouldn’t have contact with the vinyl! ^__~” Here’s Aerie wearing just the top and skirt so you can see how they look on their own. So pretty!
Volks Argyle Cardigan set

This is nice set, but honestly, with a retail price is ¥6615  it wasn’t a very good value since it only came with 3 pieces, but they are very pretty and versatile, and I can see myself using them to make other outfits. I really wish it had come with a pair of socks or maybe a hairband – just something else because this was the same price as the Lace-Up Top set and that set had so many more bits and pieces.
Volks Argyle Cardigan set

This set has sold out on the Volks international web store, but a limited stock should arrive at Volks USA for North American customers in a few months.

I hope you this set of outfit reviews was helpful. I know personally I like to know what the inside of outfits look like, if they will stain, etc. before I leave them on a doll for long periods. If there’s an outfit set that I own that you would like me to review, don’t be shy to leave me a comment! ^__^”

Dollfie Dream Meetup in Toronto – April 27, 2013

On the last weekend of April, the Dollfie Dream owners from the Toronto area got together for our monthly meet! The weather this spring has been unusually cold, which has slowed down the sakura trees in High Park so we had our meetup at Village by the Grange. We all met up for lunch at Manpuku Japanese Eatery before heading out to Grange Park to chill and take pictures.

Our theme for this meetup was “Spring Cleaning” so aprons and cute maids were abundant! Mmmm so much doll meat!
IMG_9408

I’m glad that it was a beautiful day, I’ve really missed having outdoor meetups!

I brought Sidonie, wearing the adorable Royal Highness set by puppy52. This little apron and maid hat work very nicely with the outfit and Sid looks ready to lend a helping hand!

Rin is casually ready to help out too in her pink springtime sakura-print apron.

Little Médée was not about to be left out too, she threw on an apron and is ready to tackle some cleaning!
Dollfie Dream meet in Toronto

PlasticFantastic brought her beautiful Asuka and Rei both in co-ordinating maid outfits! So much cuteness!
Dollfie Dream meet in Toronto

While Asuka wasn’t paying attention, CenturyStory’s Primula snuck in and took Rei’s place. These 2 maids in red look so cool!

Little Maya wandered off to picked some wildflowers.

We had an adorable collection of tiny resins at this meet too!

From the left we have Nurlindae’s Ellie (Soom Sammi), Nyx (Soom Bygg), Rini (Soom Ai) Mirwyn (Soom Keny) and Tallenvyaere’s Acheron. Nurlindae took the Spring Cleaning theme very seriously, and she cleaned out some old fabric at home to make new outfits for her dolls! Wow!

I was quite taken with little Acheron. He is a Luts Zuzu Mir and so cute!

Di-chan123 also brought Shana (MDD Louise) who is hanging around with Médée and Maya.

Tanu-chan brought her little Kari.

Kai also brought Selene, who is a VMF50 Yumi doll. This was my first time seeing a VMF50 up close and I was a bit surprised since she’s so slender and dainty.

Juu-Yuki brought her newest addition with her, her cute Sora Kasugano custom. She’s so shy and sweet!

Meo brought Lucy, and she was wearing a beautiful white dress. It was a bit difficult for me to get decent photos of Lucy in the direct sunlight, but here in the shade you can see her adorable face.

Nkei brought her newest doll, a beautiful DD Rise Kujikawa who she has named Summer. She looks like a lovely fairy with her soft green hair and striking green eyes.

Sid really liked being outdoors. It was one of the first sunny and warm days of the year – we’ve had a very unseasonably cold spring so far.

花見 ~ Hanami 2013 – Part 1

Hanami is the traditional Japanese custom of admiring the beauty of cherry blossoms blooming in the spring. We are fortunate in Toronto to have some beautiful Japanese sakura trees that were a gift from the citizens of Tokyo. It has been a very cold spring, so the sakura trees didn’t reach their peak bloom until early May this year! On Sunday, Kevin met up with PlasticFantastic and Sam for some early morning photos at High Park.

Hanami 2013
Here are Madeleine, Rin, Sakura and Melty wearing lovely spring yukata in homage to this lovely Japanese tradition.

The morning light is very soft and the girls look so pretty.
Hanami 2013

Melty is PlasticFantastic’s newest girl, and she looks so pretty in this pink bunny-print yukata.
Hanami 2013

Here are a few more beautiful photos from the early morning outing:

Hanami 2013

Hanami 2013

It looks so calm and serene, but Kevin told me that by 9am the park was filled with people! I was pretty bummed that I couldn’t join them, since I was working, but hopefully the flowers and weather would hold out for a few days so that I could head to the park too!

Having taken some dolls out earlier last week to High Park for a traditional hanami outing, wearing pretty spring-themed yukata, I wanted to take some girls out for a more casual day in the park.

This is one of my favourite photos of the day – Rin, Serena, nkei’s Summer and MrCool’s Sawako relaxing in a beautiful sakura tree.
Hanami 2013

Summer is a DD Rise Kujikawa, but nkei has styled her so beautifully in soft pastel greens that she is like a beautiful faerie!
Hanami 2013

Hanami 2013

Summer’s little sister, Aiko, came out to say hello too. Her sweet face and endearing eyes are so adorable.
Hanami 2013

Just look at that little face!
Hanami 2013

MrCool brought his new girl with him. She’s going to be customized into Sawako Kuronuma eventually, but for now she’s nameless >_<”
Hanami 2013

CenturyStory brought Primula in this flowing green gown. It made me think of seductive character “The Lady in the Green Kirtle” in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, by C.S. Lewis.
Hanami 2013

She’s has such a mysterious, dangerous expression here.
Hanami 2013

Hanami 2013

Hubby and I couldn’t agree on who to bring with us, so to be fair we each picked one girl.
Hanami 2013

Rin is totally his princess, and it’s easy to see why. She looks absolutely adorable with her little cat ears.
Hanami 2013

I had a sentimental reason for bringing Serena out with me. A year ago, I was in Tokyo at Dolpa and it was the last time that I saw my dear friend D.ark. I can’t believe it’s been a year that she’s been gone. I wanted to bring Serena because I know that D.ark would have loved to see her girl out on such a lovely day.
Hanami 2013

For a bit of fun – how many Dollfie Dreams can we fit into the tree?
Five?
Hanami 2013

Six!
Hanami 2013
Amazing!

Afterwards a few of us went out to Joon’s Korean Restaurant for dinner. It was a fun-filled day, which is part of the spirit of what going out for hanami is about!
Joon's

Kevin was a bit bummed that we didn’t get some photos of the dolls in wa-loli dresses (which is a mash-up of Lolita and traditional kimono/ yukata) so hopefully the weather will hold out and we can come back to the park later in the week for more pictures!

Welcome Home Dollfie Dream Aoko Aozaki!

$

Today Rin and Serena were having a relaxed afternoon playing with Médée. So many plushies!

Welcome home Aoko!

Suddenly Gabi appeared out of nowhere with a big package that the postman just delivered! Angry Bunny was suspicious so he came out to investigate too.

Welcome home Aoko!

Gabi whipped open the box and peeled back the protective layer of bubble wrap to check out what was inside. I recognize that distinctive yellow box!

Welcome home Aoko!

Gabi: “Let’s get this big yellow box upright so that we can have a proper look!”

Welcome home Aoko!

Peering out from the little window of the big yellow box is Dollfie Dream Aoko Aozaki! She was a limited release at the Volks Doll Party 28 in Tokyo last December.
Welcome home Aoko!

Rin and Gabi helped ease Aoko out of her box. Angy Bunny is on guard to make sure there’s no doll nudity!
Welcome home Aoko!

Here’s the first peek at Aoko’s lovely face. She has a very mature looking sculpt, very beautiful blue eyes and a hint of a neko-mouth! How cute!
Welcome home Aoko!

Aoko: “Stop staring and help me out of here! It’s stifling inside here!”

Here she is out of the box now. I had a quick look over to make sure that everything was in order: arms, legs, feet, and I checked her for any cracks in the elbows. I also installed some aluminum reinforcement pieces from CoolCat as a preventative measure against cracking.
Welcome home Aoko!

Let’s have a look at the other items that were also inside her box. Aoko doesn’t come with a lot of “stuff” like some other DD girls. She comes with her booklet, her wig, white down coat, brown turtleneck, red dress, brown stockings, panties and her boots.
Welcome home Aoko!

None of the clothing items are lined, and I have heard from other owners that her stockings can stain so I used a bodystocking underneath her outfit to protect her. The inside and inner soles on the boots are in white, however the zipper is brown so if any of you want to use them alone, put some socks on to protect her heels and back of her legs.
Welcome home Aoko!

It’s a bit too warm for Aoko to wear her big down coat, so here she is without it – she looks very vibrant and beautiful.
Welcome home Aoko!

Her wig has a bit of a golden glint to it, and her face is gorgeous!
Welcome home Aoko!

From the moment the preview photos of her were posted online, people commented how similar her face was to the HDD-07 sculpt – so of course I had to put them side by side. What do you think? There are definite similarities but aside from the obvious difference in the mouth shape, the bridge of Aoko’s nose is taller and the tear duct area is more defined.
Welcome home Aoko!

Thank you for joining me in welcoming this lovely new girl to my doll family! I’ve been patiently awaiting her arrival for several months now, but I’m very happy to be able to share her with all of you!
Welcome home Aoko!

Hi everyone! I caught a little cold right after Anime North (a.k.a. “post-con plague”), and have been super busy since so I apologize for this late convention write-up! Machiko and I arrived at the convention early Friday afternoon to pick up our badges, check into our hotel and move our luggage inside and that process took longer than we planned. We then went over to the convention center to visit Whitefrosty in the Crafter’s Corner, and Machiko set up a few little things to sell since they were sharing the table.

Afterward, I met up with Kevin and we walked across to the Crowne Plaza hotel to check out the Doll North events. It was awesome to see the marketplace area completely dedicated to dolls, as well as a room that was for panels, games, and workshop. PlasticFantastic and I presented a couple of panels on Dollfie Dreams and it was great to see some new faces, as well as a few familiar ones too! We had some audience members from as far away as Ottawa, Edmonton and Buffalo! Thank you to those of you that came to the panel! Here’s a lovely group shot of the lovely DD’s that were out for the evening!

I wish I could say I did exciting things like go to the rave, or watching anime all night, but my Friday & Saturday nights were spent doing last minute prep for the maid café (like ironing aprons!) over a few drinks in our hotel room! LOL

Saturday it was an early start to get the Terrace Room of the Doubletree Hotel set up for Café Delish. We had a few extra support staff this year, which was amazing and it really helped make the behind the scenes experience run much smoother! Of course the stars of the café are our wonderful cast of meidos and we had a record 14 lovely girls this year!

If you count, there are only 13 in that photo – here’s the missing meido, the lovely Keiko (right) posing here with the adorable Akane!

It’s a rare sight to have our Head Maid Yumi helping out to serve guests since she’s usually helping to oversee the operations but here she is with a couple of lucky guests. The fruit on the 3-tiered stand looks super yummY!
IMG_0843

This year was another smashing success! We sold out all the seating in record time and had a lot of fun! Here I am with a few of my brood of little meidos ♥
IMG_1253

After the café finished, the maids headed over to the convention center to take some photos in the Puri♥Meido photobooth! Look at how many maids are on duty!

Total “moe” overload!

Special thanks to AlphaZ for taking all these awesome café pictures!

As if one fun-filled day wasn’t enough, this year we debuted the AkibaSt✮r Cosplay Cafe on Sunday and the cosplay theme was AKB0048! We had sweet Tomochin, spunky Mayuyu, mysterious Yuuko, charismatic Takamina and enigmatic Acchan

IMG_1425

The atmosphere of this café was more casual than tne Maid Café, and guests were free to come and go as they pleased, and the Idols mingled with the guests for photos and also performed a dance and played a Jankenpon battle! Each table was asked to cheer and support one of the Idols, and the winner’s table got a special tasty treat!

There were 5 food items that were themed around an Idol’s character point.

The freshly made strawberry shortcake was so popular that it sold out very quickly!

If any of you came to either of our events and have photos to share, please send them to cafedelish [at] gmail.com! Thank you for your support!

I had an awesome, but very busy, weekend at Anime North! I can’t wait until next year!

Immediately after all the fun and crazy antics of Anime North, I went out for afternoon tea with PlasticFantastic, Meo, Machiko, AlphaZ and our friend Mahoro who was visiting us from Edmonton! Since this was rather improptu, there were only a few dollies in attendance. I brought Micaela (DD Aoko) out on her first outing, and Mahoro brought his custom Miku and a couple of his cute little girls: Mimi & Hanako.

Afternoon Tea Doll Meet

Warning – lots of delicious food photos!
We went to one of my favourite spots in Toronto – the Red Tea Box and ordered a mix of tea bentos and regular menu items. This is the Assam Tonganagoan Tea Feature Bento – with mango-raspberry mousse almond cake; Lime-coconut Tart; Spiced shrimp, pumpkin & coconut crispy triangles; tilapia cakes with tumeric cauliflower pickles, sesame and peanuts.

Mahoro ordered the Southeast Asian Tea Bento – with Kaffir lime tartlets w/ mango curd; Matcha cheesecake; Spiced salmon burgers with pineapple & herb salsa; Pulled chicken & mushroom taro croquettes. (The glass with the herbs in it is their house lemonade – also delicious!)

AlphaZ ordered the Mad Hatters Tea Bento served with sandwiches, smoked chicken wellington, scones and tea cakes.
The Mad Hatter Tea Bento

PlasticFantastic ordered this beautiful cake after her lunch! It’s a piece of artwork!

After our late lunch we wandered downtown Toronto a little bit and eventually made our way to Kinton Ramen, one of my favourite ramen spots in Toronto. Here’s the Shio ramen with extra pork and extra noodles, and grated garlic!! At this point I was starting to feel the post-convention plague start to hit me which is why I packed on the garlic – it’s also super tasty!

Most of us finished every last drop of broth in our bowls and became Kinton Bowlers!

Regular readers may remember that fellow DD collector Otakusan167 came to visit us in January – well he liked us so much he came back for another visit!
